Living Accommodations Needed

I'm living in Austin temporarily until I can find a job in Atlanta, GA, to join my husband there (he's a youth pastor and had been there since Oct. 2009). I have been staying with a friend who told me I need to find another place to live by mid-March. The challenge is that I'm needing to find a place where I can stay for free, but I can help with utility bills. I have a cat, but could place her with relatives if that's a problem. Please contact me at: jennileegilmer@yahoo.com if you can help.

Thank you!

We Need Volunteers!

We are in need of volunteers who would like to serve the refugee community in Austin. Right now we need people who can speak French, Spanish, and Burmese well enough to be able to interpret for refugees. We also need volunteers (you don't have to be able to speak other languages) who would like to take refugees to appointments, pick them up at the airport and other urgent needs these refugees have. If you are interested in learning more or volunteering your time, please contact Bethany at 979-204-6520 or by email: bethany.rst@gmail.com

Jamie Neil Leichti is Here!!!

Our Baby is here! On Monday morning (January 25th 2010) at 08.55 am our son Jamie Neil was born. We barely made it to the hospital and then 25 minutes later he arrived. Jamie and Sonja are doing very well. Jamie’s weight was 8.4 lb and the length 20,4 in (he was our smallest baby).

We are very grateful to God for this great little miracle and all the blessings we experienced during delivery.

Greetings from the Liechti Family

Get Involved with a Ministry for Refugees in Austin

Hello HITC Family,

The Village Center involves a group from Hope in the City who have partnered with other churches to minister to an apartment community whose resident population is made up of 80-85% refugees. We have families from Buhrma, Iraq, Cuba, Burundi, Somalia, and other war torn nations. We are also partnering with an organization called Refugee Service of Texas (RST). This group provides living accomodations and helps the new arrivals get a jump start to their lives in our country. We are always looking for people who would like to volunteer their time to help us serve and bless this community. Another practical need involves items to help furnish the homes of our new friends. RST is given a budget for the new families and has a list of items that must be provided. This includes a couch, dining table, pots and pans, dishes, and other furnishings. They receive much of these items as donations and must purchase them if unavailable. To purchase them means that the families will be given less to help support themselves. If you have anything you would be willing to donate, anything helps; however they are stocked up on clothing at present. If you would like to get involved or make a donation, please email David Allen, daveka73@aol.com or Bethany Allen, bellaitaliano82@yahoo.com. RST has a person who can come to your home on Mondays to pick up donated furnishings. Thank you and God bless.

Refugee Help Needed!

Hey Church,

We need people to come volunteer their time serving the refugees at the apartment complex we work at. We have 2 ESL classes that need people to help teach them. They are Tues. and Wed.'s from 10:00-noon. If we don't get volunteers, they will have to stop teaching because there is only ONE person right now that can help. This would be such a shame because people are coming and our heart is to serve them in their community to make it easier on them.

If you are interested, please contact Lu from AAIM at: luz@aaimaustin.org. Thanks for serving our city!

Need Some Work Done? I Can Help...

"Howdy Neighbors,
My name is Ian Boyd and I’m a recent graduate from UT and Hope 242 our college ministry. I’m working right now to find a job in Austin but the going has been tough and the bills have been stacking up. If you need any work to be done, I want to offer myself as a paid helper.

My time is free to pursue house sitting, pet sitting, yard work, or whatever else you might be interested in hiring a helper for. I have a lot of experience in these sorts of everyday jobs as well as a degree in History (if you have a great purpose for that let me know, even if you aren’t looking to hire). I’ve done work in the church with Ryan Walker, our college pastor, Sean Jones the youth pastor and am a longtime friend of Don and Ame Cook who can all vouch for my work ethic and character.

Email me at iain8boyd@gmail.com or just call my cell anytime at 512-786-4912 if you would like a willing worker for any projects, holiday or otherwise.

Thank you kindly,

Ian Boyd"

City Transformation Through Unceasing Prayer

Prayer for Austin in 2010!

Many words have been spoken by Christian leaders around the world recently about Austin being the next transformational city, where revival will break out and Jesus will be glorified. This will happen as believers in Austin unite to lift up unceasing prayer for the city. HITC is joining 31 other churches in Austin to cover the city in prayer 24/7. Our day to pray each month is the first Saturday (beginning Jan. 02). Sign up for your time to pray at the Connection Center. Do it here, Lord! See www.austinprays.org.
